Montrose Youth Activities sponsors Co-ed baseball and softball for five to fifteen year olds. For more information, please contact Missy Benner at 319-463-5092; or Shane Weirather.

Montrose boasts three parks and two ball diamonds. The largest field is the Bud Metzinger Field. Our newest park is located at River View Park.

There is a new gazebo, a huge playground, and beautiful landscaping.  Boaters can put their boats in the water in the harbor.  There are also signs describing the Mormon Trek and Old Fort Des Moines.

The City supplies homes and businesses with water, sewer and garbage services. Utilities are billed at the end of every month and due by the 10th of the following month. If you are unable to make payment during regular business hours, please use the drop box located on the front of the City Hall building; or send payment to P O Box 57, Montrose, Iowa 52639. The water charge is $29.45 for the first 1,000 gallons and $3.95 per thousand over 1,000, plus tax; Sewer is $31.65; Garbage is $7.00 and Integrated Waste Services is $1.00. Garbage pickup is provided by contract to Kohlmorgan Hauling. Weekly pickup is on Tuesday. Please have your garbage out by 7:00 a.m. A water/sewer deposit of $134.78 is required for all new customers. A $7.50 service charge is required if the water to the home has been shut off. If you are planning new home construction, you must first speak with the Water/Wastewater Operator at 319-463-5533 regarding water and sewer service connections. The fees for water and sewer connections are $200.00 for each connection.

If you are adding on, putting in a fence, or digging anywhere on your property, State Code provides you must call Iowa One Call for locates. The utility companies serving the City will locate lines on your property. Please call One Call at 1-800-292-8989. IT’S THE LAW!

City Permits & Licenses (top)

Pet Tags are available at City Hall for owners of dogs and cats. You must present a current Rabies Certificate from your Veterinarian to purchase a tag. From October 1, through December 31 , the tags are $5.00 per pet. After December 31, the tags are $10.00 per pet. If you are a new resident, you have 30 days to get your pet a tag at $5.00 per tag. Pets under three months of age are not required to have a tag. Animal ordinances are strictly enforced.

Cigarette Permits are required by businesses selling tobacco products. To get the application, please visit this website – http://www.state.ia.us/tax/forms/70014.pdf Applications are due to City Hall by June 15th and the fee of $75.00 paid to the “City of Montrose”. The permit year runs from July 1st to June 30th.

Liquor Licenses are required by businesses or organizations selling beer or liquor. The License year varies depending on when the business first applied for a license and for how many months the applicant needs the permit/license. Cemetery Deeds – The price for a grave is $200.00. There are new Cemetery Rules. Click on the link to view the Cemetery Rules. Please see Cemetery Caretaker Michael Hoenig or call

Building Permits are available at City Hall. Please call the Clerk at 319-463-5533 for more information. The “Iowa One Call Law” (Chapter 480, Iowa Code) is enforced by the Iowa Attorney General, who, upon the receipt of a complaint, may institute any legal proceedings necessary to enforce the penalty provisions of the “Iowa One Call Law.”

Recycling (top)

A recycling container is located on South Fourth Street adjacent to the gym. Please break down all cardboard boxes before putting them in the container. This is not a garbage receptacle.

In addition, there are numerous apartment buildings in town. The Montrose Health Care Center is located here, as well as two Senior Housing units.
